Video Tutorial: Slice Through BIM Models with Clip Planes
Large, multidisciplinary BIM models can be difficult to navigate, especially when you need to examine specific areas or understand how building systems interact.
Visicon’s Clip Planes make it easy to cut through complex 3D models, expose hidden details, and focus on exactly what you need to see.
In this short video tutorial, you’ll learn how to:
- Add a Clip Plane by selecting any model surface
- Move and rotate Clip Planes to create the views you need
- Use Ctrl to snap rotations to 5-degree increments
- Create and manage up to nine independent Clip Planes
- Quickly isolate selected elements using a Clip Box
- Turn Clip Planes on or off, or remove them when finished
The demonstration uses a large, federated building model containing architectural, structural, and MEP systems. Despite the original Revit models totaling over 1 GB, Visicon’s compact model format makes navigating and exploring the combined model fast and responsive.
Whether you’re reviewing structural details, investigating MEP coordination, or simply trying to understand a complex design, Clip Planes help you get straight to the information that matters.
